Do you really need a Consultancy to apply to study in Canada?

Thus, to ensure all these things and make the entire processing smooth, you can take help of an educational consultancy. Consultancies possess technical expertise, experience and have lots of information from sorting the right school followed by documentation to visa lodgment.
But make sure that you choose the right one as choosing the right consultancy for abroad study is equally important as choosing the right surgeon for surgery. In the midst of 1000s of consultancies in Nepal who claims themselves as the best, reaching the right one really depends upon your research and intention. Yes, you heard it right, research and intention.
Your research may include; credentials of the consultancy, success stories, experience, counselors and the way they work. Now talking about intention, if you only care about flying abroad and discard all other things, there are several doors to knock.
But if you are a genuine student with a desire to study and achieve something big rather than just flying without caring about consequences, you will have to knock among the few doors.
Choosing the right consultancy can help you save your time and money and lead to hassle free processing along with landing you to the right school in Canada.
Choosing the right consultancy for Canada
While it comes to choosing the right consultancy for Canada, you might start up with confusions as all the consultancies call themselves as expert for Canada. Determining the expertise based on big banners with maple leaf, lots of advertisements, visa posts on Facebook walls etc. might not always lead you to the right one. Rely on those who have credentials. Rely on those who have experience.
Rely on those who can share you real time experience of abroad studies rather than just flaking with little bit of googled information. Not all but some consultancies are ready to make you a guinea pig or put you on trial and error.
High commission of Canada has clearly stated that you should at least have 6.0 in IELTS otherwise there is high chances of a visa denial. But some consultants here are ready to apply for visa with lower than 6.0 in IELTS and try on student’s luck.
Another important thing to consider is the right match. Your expectation from your consultant should be to advise you a right match school in terms of all academic qualification, language proficiency and paying capacity.
Correct advice in financial document preparation is also crucial for your visa. High commission has an experience and mechanism to identify if the financial documents provided are true. They look your application from many angles.
That’s why the visa processing time is longer compared to other countries. According to high commission, they have been able to identify 90% of the fake or illegitimate documents. Therefore, any consultancies offering you the promise of making your financial documents or applying with the illegitimate documents end up risking your study permit.
High Commission’s Recommendation
According to the officials of high Commission, the acceptance of your visa mostly depends upon your ability to convince a visa officer that you meet all the requirements stated by school and high commission, you are financially sound enough to study in Canada, your further plans and intention to return back after your studies.
In order to convey your points clearly to the visa officer, your documents and Letter of Intent (LOI) plays a crucial role. A strong LOI is considered a key to study permit. A good consultancy should be able to guide you to develop a strong LOI rather than just copying from somewhere else and just fulfilling the condition.
The visa officers are well trained and read hundreds of LOI every day and they can easily identify if that’s your own work or not. In order to make your study permit application strong, officials from High Commission recommends the following points:
- IELTS score no less than 6 or any English language test score equivalent to it.
- Paying the tuition fee for 1 full academic year is recommended. It helps to prove your financial strength.
- Strong LOI
- Well-arranged genuine documents.
- You should have an unconditional Letter of Acceptance and offer letter.
- You should have clean records.
Rumors and Facts about studying in Canada
However, there are some rumors in the market related to study permit. Some so called Canadian experts say that applying for Post-graduate diploma/certificate instead of master’s degree impacts your study permit. It is not true. You can apply for PGD/PGC after your bachelor’s degree and it has nothing to do with your visa.
However, High Commission recommends that program you apply to study should be in progression. Another rumor spread is that your study permit might be denied if you choose a private institute.
Again, this is not a fact-based statement but the school you are applying to should be listed as a Designated Learning Institute (DLI) as DLIs are government-approved institutions.
You might have heard that if your study permit is denied once, it’s hard to get in other attempts which is only a ridiculous rumor. In fact, high commission says that more than 90% of the denied cases can be fixed if you follow the points mentioned for your denial.
You can apply as many times as you want. There are many other rumors and your counselor should be able to clear them once you are troubled.
DOs and DON’T while applying for Canada
If you are planning to study in Canada, here are some DOs and DON’Ts for you:
▶ First check if you meet all the requirements to study in Canada including your academic scores, language proficiency, paying capacity etc. Do not just randomly apply because your friend is applying, or some consultancy says that you can apply without meeting the requirements.
▶ Make sure you have enough IELTS/TOEFL score. Applying with no IELTS/TOEFL or very less score is not recommended.
▶ Education loan from A class commercial bank or bank balance should be held for at least 4 months to cover your tuition fees and living expenses is recommended to fulfill your financial part.
▶ Apply on time so that you have at least two months in your hand for visa processing. The ideal visa processing time for Nepal was 7 weeks before the Pandemic.
▶ Make sure that all the documents presented are legitimate. Presenting false documents, especially financial document may end up with adverse results.
▶ Make sure that your LOI isn’t the new version of someone’s else work.
▶ Gap more than a year after your higher secondary education is considered good until you have a very strong reason. Therefore, plan accordingly.
▶ Choose the right consultancy. Credentials, experience, results and the counselors are the key things to see while choosing your consultancy.
▶ Do not fall in the trap if somebody guarantees you a visa. No consultancy can guarantee a visa as its not in their hands. Some may claim that visa success for Nepal is 98% or100%. Check the stats from high commission.
