Preparation Strategies for Beginners

For beginners, day-to-day activities like watching English films can help with the listening section, reading newspapers in English can help with the reading section, and talking in English with people around you can help with the speaking section.

For improving the Writing section, writing a few sentences (on topics of your interest like hobbies, my day out etcetera) can boost your writing skills to a great extent.

As per research, these practices make learning a rewarding experience and allow the brain to work better and insert new knowledge easily.

These are strategy-specific sections of the TOEFL test, which include four important parts -Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening.

Strategy for TOEFL iBT Reading Strategy

Doing well in the reading section requires an enhanced vocabulary power, an understanding of sentence structures, and a clear organization of your ideas. In passages, look at the first sentence to get the main idea or central message and outline the key points in the passage.

Also, note what the passage is about and what the author is discussing, which will easily help you answer the questions in the passages.

Strategy for TOEFL iBT Listening Strategy

Listening strategy is important as it measures a student’s ability to understand conversations and lectures in English.

In your listening strategy, while listening to a conversation or a lecture, you need to pay attention to things like what the listening piece is about, why is it taking place, and its conclusion. Plus, practice picking out the purpose of the talk with specific details or examples.

Strategy for TOEFL iBT Speaking Strategy

For speaking, the first thing you should work on is your introduction, as it is the first chance to make a good impression on your listener.

While speaking, make sure to mention, what you are talking about, and why you are discussing it. Organize your spoken response with an introduction, body, and conclusion. English language learners, while presenting, should include examples, reasons, and topic sentences that introduce the main point of the paragraph of the talk.

Strategy for TOEFL iBT Writing Strategy

In this strategy, the written piece should address the topic and the task, as a properly written response shows a specific purpose. It should be organized with clear explanations and, examples in detail. In the opinion question, make sure you choose a side and defend your position with supporting reasons, explaining why you believe your position is correct.

For each passage that you read, write on, speak about, or listen to on the TOEFL, you should focus on the purpose, examples, and conclusion for your TOEFL iBT strategic preparation.
